India, Paraguay, Brazil, Colombia -- it is a good illustration of the global problem dengue presents, while the manifestation of epidemics in these countries--where dengue has been battled for decades--demonstrates that adequate control measures do not exist. That is, in the absence of a dengue vaccine, means to control mosquito populations. This is due to 2 things: 1. inadequate political initiative and/or resources (though I would think it more costly to not have proactive control programs in place, making it an issue of politics) and 2. inadequate understanding of dengue transmission.
